My name is Sarah Shaker, and I am a master’s student in Psychology at the University of Padua, Italy.?

My experience at RITMO began with the desire to pursue a research internship, in order to gain new perspectives and develop techniques and tools in cognitive neuropsychology. This opportunity was made possible by Professor Bruno Laeng, who involved me in an experimental research project focused on habituation and arousal in response to musical stimuli. From the very beginning, I felt welcomed and valued, which helped create a positive and comfortable environment where I could both contribute and learn.?
I also had the opportunity to attend the Vision and Brain course, taught by Professor Laeng, which allowed me to strengthen my theoretical background and then apply it in the laboratory. There, I learned how to conduct experimental sessions using an eye-tracking system and how to observe and reflect on the collected data.?
The atmosphere at RITMO is both stimulating and friendly. Through the food & paper meetings, I was able to stay updated on new research topics and take part in open and constructive discussions within the center. Together with a PhD colleague, I also presented the research project we were working on for the first time, receiving valuable and encouraging feedback from other colleagues.
RITMO also taught me the importance of collaboration and working well with others. There was always space for dialogue and exchange, and over time I was able to build meaningful connections with the people around me.

RITMO truly values quality time and meaningful relationships. Through seminars and workshops, training and social moments blended naturally, offering both intellectual stimulation and moments of enjoyment.?
I could not have wished for a better experience. I would recommend RITMO to anyone who wants to live the research environment while enjoying a welcoming atmosphere and being surrounded by inspiring people!
