When should I travel on exchange?
We recommend going on exchange in the second or third semester of the master's programme. Doing one or more semesters, or completing parts of the master's thesis, at one of our partner institutions is something we strongly recommend. Feel free to visit the study administration for more information on exchange opportunities.
Where can you travel?
The University of Oslo collaborates with research groups in quantum science and quantum technology at several universities aboad. In the Nordic region, this applies to educational institutions in Denmark, Finland, and Sweden. If you choose one of these research groups, you will have the opportunity to have an international supervisor, gain a larger network, and participate in activities such as seminars and experiments in the group.
This programme is particularly relevant for exchanges with one our partners in the Nordics, the University of Copenhagen, where we have a collaboration agreement with the Niels Bohr Institute (NBI). NBI is world-renowned and, among other things, hosts the Novo Nordisk Quantum Computing Program (NQCP).?This collaboration will be developed further, and more information will follow.??
We also recommend these educational institutions, among others, for exchange (Norwegian web pages):
- ?cole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Sveits
- Link?pings Universitet, Sverige
- Michigan State University, USA
- Syddansk Universitet, Danmark
- University of California, Berkeley, USA
- University of Jyv?skyl?, Finland
- University of Melbourne, Australia
- University of Sydney, Australia
- Aarhus Universitet, Danmark
Exchange agreements
Want to go somewhere else? See the complete list of all the agreements at the Department of Physics (in Norwegian). You can examine all the agreements at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (in Norwegian) and associated departments or all the agreements at UiO (in Norwegian) in general. It is also possible to organise a stay abroad on your own initiative, independent of the University of Oslo's agreements.
Why travel on exchange?
By completing one or two semesters as a student abroad, you will gain a distinctive competence in your field of study. Studying abroad can also increase the benefit of the education you are undertaking.
Get better language skills
Most exchange agreements offer courses taught in English, but you can also take courses in the local language if you have the required proficiency. If you want to take only English courses, most exchange agreements have language courses that you can choose to take at the beginning of the semester. If you go to a non-English-speaking country, you will have a unique opportunity to develop your language skills in everyday life as well.
Strengthen your position on the job market
That international experience is an important qualification that is valued by an increasing number of employers is clearly evident in several surveys. The Erasmus impact study report shows that studying abroad has a positive effect on students' job opportunities.
