Preparedness has become more relevant, along with solutions that can be used in health care as well as in defence – so called dual-use technologies. The European Defence Fund is one of the relevant funding sources for researchers and startups. Meet researchers and startups from UiO, OUS, SINTEF and Oslo Science Park who work on dual-use technologies.

Apply for the innovation award by 1 May

Do you have an invention? Take part in Inven2's innovation competition?the Innovation Award 2026. The competition is open to employees at the University of Oslo and the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority. The winner receives NOK 300 000. Deadline 1 May.

Do you have an idea? Reach out to the innovation advisers in the UiO Growth House to get guidance and support to develop your idea further.

Apply for funding of student innovation project by 1 August

The student association Insj manages student innovation grants on behalf of the UiO Growth House. Students can apply for NOK 25 000 to further develop their innovative ideas. You may also apply for only NOK 5000 if you are just getting started. The next application deadline is 1 August 2026.

Join innovation courses fall 2026

The UiO Growth House runs innovation courses at different levels that will increase innovation competence among UiO employees: PhD candidates, postdocs, researchers and other employees. ?The courses are free for UiO employees.?

13 October, 09:00–12:30: Foundation level IDEA course?

Do you want to learn how to identify a good innovation idea from research data? This course is the perfect starting point for everyone curious about innovation. We use Design Thinking to introduce you to the innovation process.

24–26 November, 09:00–16:00: Step-up level Idea to Innovation (I2I) course

Do you want to learn how to turn your idea into a successful innovation project? This hands-on workshop introduces you to the tools you need to do so. We’ll also cover funding opportunities and innovation grant writing as a potential next step for developing your project further.

Grant writing course innovation funding

At this course we'll share the nuts and bolts of innovation grant writing with you for example to be granted internal innovation funding from UiO, commercialisation funding from the Research Council of Norway or European Innovation Council. The course will be set up based on interest.
