SUS2000 – Sustainability: Perspectives, Challenges and Solutions
Course content
Are you ready to tackle the biggest challenges of our time? The Anthropocene, our current era, is marked by profound and interacting global issues around climate change, energy crisis, environmental degradation and growing inequality.?These challnges vary accross the globe and require diverse, innovative solutions. ??
Our course is designed to expand your understanding of these critical issues and the reality we are part of. You will explores sustainability from multiple perspectives and learn how?different research fields can collaborate to create transformation pathways. Through engaging lectures, immersive field visits, and dynamic collaborative activities, you will be encouraged to reflect on your own knowledge and attitudes towards sustainability and discover your potential to drive the change.??
Learning outcome
Define, interpret, and integrate various theoretical perspectives on sustainability, as well as analyse and evaluate the outcomes of different case studies?
Appreciate various types of knowledge and methodologies, and effectively communicate across different disciplines?
Develop a systemic thinking approach to sustainability dilemmas??
Practice problem solving from interdisciplinary perspectives in a collaborative setting???
Communicate and present complex sustainability issues?
Admission to the course
You must be either enrolled in one of the bachelor's programme at UiO, a student in a 5-year professional study programme, a single-course student or an exchange bachelor student. ?
This course is not open to master’s students.?
Recommended previous knowledge
It is recommended that you have already completed 60 ECTS credits from your previous studies, prior to this course enrollment.?
Teaching
The teaching combines lectures with group work and field trips/guest visits.??
Attendance is mandatory, and active participation in seminars is both expected and encouraged. You must maintain at least 80% attendance to qualify for the exam. ?
Access to teaching?
A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework, and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on the available capacity.?
Examination
Sustainability fair presentation in the form of a poster, a podcast a video/movie or an RPG debate. You choose the format with your assigned group during the seminars. In addition to the group work, you must submit an individual written task based on the group work.??
This course has obligatory activities that must be approved before you can take the exam.?

If you?withdraw from the exam?after the deadline, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
Language of examination
You may submit your response in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.
