Overview
Orchestra Musicians
Orchestra musicians will be asked to:
- Wear a fitted Equivital sensor vest under their concert clothes to record heart rate, body sway, respiration, and body temperature during rehearsals and concerts
- Wear wrist accelerometers to track bowing (strings)
- Participate in synchronization taps before and after playing
- Perform as normal
Conductor
The conductor will be asked to:
- Wear a full-body motion capture suit
- Wear eye-tracking glasses
- Perform as normal
What will participation involve?
If you choose to participate, you will be asked to wear some measurement devices while performing in rehearsals and concerts as part of the orchestra. These devices might include sensors that measure physiological rhythms (heart rate, breathing, pupil size, skin conductance) and/or body motion. We will also capture audio, video, and photographs of your performance. You will be asked to answer some questions about your musical background, and you might be asked to participate in an interview about your experiences performing in the orchestra.
Participation is voluntary
Participation in this project is voluntary. If you choose to participate, you may withdraw your consent anytime for any reason. You will have no negative consequences if you do not want to participate or choose to withdraw.
Your personal privacy – how we will store and use your personal data
We will only use your personal data for the purposes stated in this document. We will process your personal data confidentially and in accordance with data protection legislation (the General Data Protection Regulation and Personal Data Act). Only people in the project group will have access to the personal data. Anonymized versions of the data will be made openly available with a CC-BY license. Only anonymized data will be published.
What will happen to your personal data at the end of the research project?
After the project ends, your data, including some personal data (photos, audio, and video recordings) as well as body motion and physiological data, will remain protected on University of Oslo servers for other researchers in related projects.
Your rights
As long as you can be identified in the data, you are entitled to:
- Information about what personal data is registered about you
- Have your personal information corrected
- Have your personal information deleted
- Get a copy of your personal data
- Submit a complaint to the Data Protection Officer or the Norwegian Data Protection Authority regarding the processing of your personal data
What gives us the right to process personal information about you?
We process information about you based on your consent. On behalf of the University of Oslo, NSD – Norwegian Center for Research Data AS has determined that personal data processing in this project follows the privacy regulations.
