New procedure for registering holidays for academic staff

The University of Oslo has introduced a new procedure for registering holidays for academic staff. It was partially implemented in 2025, but from 2026 onwards holidays in July will be pre-registered for everyone in this staff category.

The purpose of this change is to help ensure that more employees both take and register their holidays.

If it is not convenient for you to take your holiday in July, you can use the self-service portal to register for another period instead. Information on how to request for absence can be found on the following page:

What do you need to do?

  • Are you taking your holiday in July? Then you do not need to do anything.
  • If the proposed holiday in July is not convenient for you, delete it and agree another time with your manager.
  • Remember that everyone who has accrued holiday pay has both the right and the obligation to take holiday.
